My PhD research on using machine learning to detect pain levels from brain signals was featured on the front page of MIT News.

About the Research

This work addressed a fundamental challenge in medicine: pain is subjective, and clinicians currently have no objective way to measure it. By developing machine learning models that analyse neural signals, we demonstrated that it is possible to detect and quantify pain intensity directly from brain activity — providing a potential pathway toward objective pain assessment.

This is particularly relevant in the context of the opioid crisis, where better pain measurement could help clinicians make more informed decisions about analgesic dosing and reduce the risk of over-prescription.
